Aikido Weapons in the Park

Until we have a dedicated space to hold regular classes, we are meeting every Saturday 10-11:15am in San Pedro Springs Park for Aikido weapons practices. Meetups are weather permitting. This is a great time to meet the teachers and students that participate in Aikido with Alamo Area Aikikai. Visitors and participants are responsible for their well being and responsible behavior is required. It is recommended to bring a source of hydration.

INTRODUCTION TO THE ART OF PEACE

O Sensei created Aikido in response to the brutal realities of post World War II Japan. He emphasized that Aikido was medicine for a sick world. We believe this translates as a means to develop true inner harmony within oneself that transcends regular physical training. The intention is one of daily practice as opposed to collecting rank and status. This in turn cultivates a mindfulness training and an opportunity to build a diverse and welcoming community within the dojo space and beyond.

FUNDAMENTALS OF AIKIDO

No matter how experienced you are, there’s always more room to perfect the basics and foundations of movement within the martial practice of Aikido. We value the beginner's mind and strive to provide a welcoming practice regardless of experience levels. The repetitive nature of Aikido practice and focus on the fundamentals of movement and technique allow for advancement to more challenging levels of practice as one progresses in the Art of Peace.

PRINCIPLES OF AIKIDO

In Aikido, the development of ki (life force energy) through daily practice and the noncompetitive training with a partner allow for a deeper connection to the principles of the universe that promote harmony. While traditional martial arts practice evokes ideals of self defense through submissions and dominance of an opponent or attacker, a student of Aikido strives to allow the preservation of life through harmonious partnerships and cooperative learning.
